A Way Home

A Way Home is a platformer made in Unreal Engine for the global game jam in 2019. The team I was in existed out of 5 people. 3 developers and 2 artists. The theme of the gamejam was about home. In this game we wanted to show it that the outside world is cold and exists of dangers and obstacles. A place that you can call home is safe, cozy and warm. You can click on the arrows to see more videos and pictures

We worked with scripted blue prints in the engine. Quinn teached me and Paul how to use Unreal Engine and the blueprints since it was our first time. With his help I made the movement in the game, the falling spikes and the moving penguins. Finn made the outside world and the character while Floyd made the house. All the other  mechanics were made by paul and Quinn. We made the game within 48 hours.

The game has mechanics that the player can work with and should avoid. The player can walk like in any typical platformer. The player can go left, right and jump. The player has obstacles that can kill him/her like getting attacked by a patrolling penguin,  touching an falling ice pick and falling down in a hole. There are certain platforms that are made out of ice, so the player slides on them which can help the player or ruin everything. When the player gets damage, life will be taken from him/her and gets back to a checkpoint. When all lifes are gone, the player will return to the main menu since he/she lost then.
